Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab is in isolation after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus amid diplomatic challenges with the United States over electoral chaos.
Raab will work remotely for 14 days of isolation after being informed Thursday of the positive test from a recent close contact, a spokesman for the Cabinet minister said.
The UK is entering a difficult phase in its relationship with the US after Donald Trump plunged the nation into crisis by falsely claiming victory and posing legal challenges.
Not only have there been calls to criticize the president’s behavior, but Britain is under pressure to improve relations with Joe Biden, the Democratic challenger who is the frontrunner to lead the White House.

Raab’s spokesman said: “The Foreign Secretary was informed today that a person with whom he has been in close recent contact has tested positive for coronavirus.
“In accordance with government regulations and NHS track and trace rules, the Foreign Secretary has taken immediate steps to isolate himself for the required period. It will continue to work remotely during this time. “
The Foreign Secretary, along with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has refused to criticize the Republican leader for claiming there is “fraud in the American nation” and saying he would use the United States Supreme Court to stop the count of votes.
Mr. Raab said “we have to be patient” and wait for the election result, insisting that “we have full confidence in the checks and balances of the American system to produce a result.”
He insisted that he would not be “sucked in” by the debate over Trump’s actions, which have been widely criticized for threatening democracy itself.
