Five coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in Devon and Cornwall hospitals this weekend, the NHS confirmed.
They bring the total number of deaths in Devon and Cornwall hospitals since the pandemic started at 493.
Four of the five deaths that were announced on Saturday and Sunday (December 19 and 20) were recorded on December 17, while one was recorded on December 18, according to data released by the NHS.
Two of the deaths occurred at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust hospitals, while one death in each was recorded at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust, Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust, and Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
In a statement, an NHS spokesperson said: “Another 266 people who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals in England to 46,388.
“The patients were between 42 and 101 years old. All but seven (ages 53 to 90) had known underlying health problems.
“The date of death is from November 8 to December 19, 2020 and most are December 17 or later.
“Their families have been informed.”
