Hero firefighters have fought a fierce blaze all night after a disused Scottish school was engulfed in flames.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to the old Brimmond Elementary School on Inverurie Road in Aberdeen around 10pm on Wednesday.
Police also rushed to the scene and closed a large section of the A96 after a cloud of smoke filled the surrounding area.
Local residents were warned to close their windows and doors as the incident unfolded, which was safely closed shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday.
Scottish police issued a statement last night confirming they were called to the fire.
A spokesperson said: “Scottish Police are present together with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service at a fire in a building inside Brimmond’s disused primary school, Inverurie Road, Aberdeen.
“The A96 Inverurie Road is currently closed northbound between Oldmeldrum Road and Stoneywood Road to allow access for emergency vehicles and is likely to be closed for some time. The detours are made via Oldmeldrum Road and Stoneywood Road.
“Although there is no danger to nearby properties, residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke in the air.”
A spokeswoman for the Scottish Rescue and Fire Service confirmed that the crews had been removed at 7.14am on Thursday morning.
