Sadly, fifty-three more people have died in hospitals in our region after contracting coronavirus.

Every day England’s NHS provides an update on Covid-19 related deaths in hospital trusts across the country.

These are cases in which a patient has tested positive or in which Covid-19 is mentioned on their death certificate.

Today (Wednesday) the NHS said 53 more deaths had been recorded in the region’s hospital trusts, again one of the highest recorded in recent weeks.

A total of 33 were registered by the Pennine Acute NHS Trust.

This means that the trust, which runs North Manchester General Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary, has recorded a total of 55 deaths in the previous 48 hours alone.

The Manchester Foundation Trust, which runs several of the city’s leading hospitals, including Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) and Wythenshawe Hospital, recorded eight new deaths.

While seven were registered with Salford Royal, two with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust which runs Stepping Hill Hospital and two with Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust.

On Tuesday, trusts in Greater Manchester recorded 64 deaths, the highest number of daily deaths recorded since the peak of the first wave in April.

The death toll in hospitals in the region surpassed 3,000 for the first time, which is currently 3,080.

Nationwide deaths of 361 people were registered in hospitals.

In a statement, the NHS said: “The patients were between 43 and 102 years old.

“All but 20 (ages 58 to 95) had known underlying health problems.

“The date of death is from October 13 to November 10, 2020.

“Their families have been informed.”
