Essex remains under threat from Level Three restrictions as infection rates rise across the county.
In just four days, on December 16, the county will know if it will remain under Tier Two restrictions, or if it will move to the more stringent restrictions, Tier Three.
Currently, Basildon, Essex remains one of the areas hardest hit in the whole of England by Covid-19 infection rates.
The latest government data shows that Basildon now has the third worst infection rate, which has soared from 333.9 cases per 100,000 to 508.5, with 952 new cases registered in the space of seven days.
Brentwood has also seen an alarming jump in cases from 193.5 cases per 100,000 residents to 353.2, where the area has seen 272 new cases in the same week.
The data, which comes from Public Health England, analyzes the seven days to December 7 and is based on tests conducted in labs and in the wider community.
In Thurrock, the infection rate has also increased from 202.5 to 306.9 in the space of seven days, while Epping Forest has seen an increase from 189.8 to 302.2.
At the other end of the scale, Tendring has a significantly lower infection rate of just 85.3 cases per 100,000, a big difference compared to other Essex neighbors.
The cases triggered this week are a worrying sign for the county and what lies ahead.
