Edwin van der Sar is said to have had an important role to play in Donny van de Beek’s future transfer from Ajax to Manchester United.
Multiple reports claim that the two clubs have agreed on a fee of around £ 40 million for the attacking midfielder to move to Old Trafford.
And the 23-year-old is expected to travel to England on Monday, with the deal likely to be confirmed in the coming days.
Van der Sar, who is Ajax’s chief executive, played United’s goal for six seasons, helping them win four Premier League titles and one Champions League.
He still has a soft spot for his former team and according to The Guardian, their ties to United have helped them beat competition from players like Real Madrid and Barcelona for the signing of Van de Beek.
His Ajax coach Erik ten Hag also seemed resigned to losing the player by knocking him out of a friendly against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
And when asked about Van de Beek after the game, Ten Hag said: “In fact, there are events that keep him out of the national team. We will see what happens. We will make an announcement as soon as there is some clarity.
“The fact that Donny didn’t play indicates a direction. The request not to let him play did not specifically come from one side. We do it together. Agreements have been made on a possible transfer, and if that possibility arises, you should also cooperate. “

Van de Beek would become United’s first signing of the summer after a frustrating window so far, which has prevented them from reaching No. 1 target Jadon Sancho, as well as players like Jack Grealish.
Yet with about a month to go until the window slammed shut, United fans are hoping that Van de Beek will be the first of at least a couple of new faces to walk through the door.
