Manchester United are already looking to extend Edinson Cavani’s contract, says manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The 33-year-old Uruguayan striker joined on a one-year contract in October, with an option for one more year.
He has only started one Premier League game, but has scored three goals in eight games and came off the bench to create the Bruno Fernandes goal. in Leicester on Saturday.
Solskjaer said he hopes a new deal will be reached.
“Edinson has a few years left, so I wouldn’t say anything more,” Solskjaer said. “He has had a great impact and I trust him.”
Solskjaer said he sees the former Paris St-Germain and Napoli striker as more than just an impact substitute.
“It’s definitely a headline,” said the Norwegian.
“You don’t classify a player of that quality like anything else. I trust him and he will probably start more games than he doesn’t.”
Cavani’s presentation was delayed because he had been isolated for fifteen days after arriving from France. He then had to improve his fitness for the match after leaving PSG at the end of June.
Minor injuries have also ruled him out for brief periods but, when he has played, he has shown quality moments commensurate with his status as one of the best forwards in the world.
Confidence is obviously not a problem either.
While another South American, Antonio Valencia, once returned jersey number seven at Old Trafford due to the weight of history attached to it, Cavani actively called for the number that iconic club figures such as George Best, Bryan Robson, David Beckham have worn. and Cristiano Ronaldo.
“It was the first thing he asked me if he could use the number seven,” Solskjaer said.
“We are obviously talking about the history of the jersey but when you think about his career, the experience he has had and his personality from the talk I had with him and when I saw him before, there was no doubt that he could handle it.”
