Donald Trump and his wife Melania have tested positive for coronavirus.
In a tweet, the president said, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through it TOGETHER!”
Trump, 74, previously said he and the first lady, 50, were isolating themselves after Hope Hicks, one of his top aides, tested positive.
Melania Trump tweeted: “As many Americans have done this year, @potus and I are self-quarantined at home after testing positive for COVID-19. We feel good and have postponed all upcoming engagements.
“Please make sure you are safe and we will all get through this together.”
Ms. Hicks, 31, who serves as the president’s counselor, reportedly tested positive for the disease on Thursday, the day after she traveled with the president to a rally.
He has traveled with the president several times in the past week, including in the Marine One presidential helicopter and Air Force One until the first presidential debate on Tuesday night.
The positive tests come as the virus continues to spread at an alarming rate in the US, even as Trump has tried to downplay the threat of the disease.
