Donald Trump “ abruptly ended ” an interview with the main television program of the American news magazine 60 Minutes, before attacking his interviewer on Twitter.
The president tweeted a video of host Lesley Stahl seemingly without a mask while the show was being taped.
Trump said there was “much more to come.”
He later threatened to post his own video of the interview before it airs Sunday, “so everyone can get a glimpse of what a FAKE and BIASED interview is all about.”
But it was later reported that there had been “drama” during the filming of the show.
CNN’s White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins tweeted that the president had ended his interview “abruptly” after about 45 minutes.
The president reportedly told the show’s creators that they had enough material and that he would not continue filming.
And CNN reported that Trump did not return for a scheduled “walk and talk” interview he had scheduled for the show with Vice President Mike Pence.
According to CNN, Pence recorded his segment alone.
Stahl revealed in May that he had been diagnosed with Covid-19.
She said the illness had left her bedridden for two weeks, battling pneumonia.
“One of the rules of journalism is” Don’t become part of the story, “he wrote.
“But instead of covering the pandemic, I was one of more than a million Americans who became a part of it.”
The president later said he was “considering” posting footage of the interview himself, ahead of its scheduled air time on Sunday.
He tweeted: “I am pleased to inform you that for the sake of reporting accuracy I am considering posting my 60 minute interview with Lesley Stahl, BEFORE TIME TO COME!
“This will be done so that everyone can get a glimpse of what a FAKE and SENSITIVE interview is about …”
Leader Joe Biden and Vice President candidate Kamala Harris were interviewed for the same show yesterday at their campaign headquarters in Delaware.
Trump’s campaign adviser Jason Miller said the claims that the president dropped out of the interview were “very fake news.”
He said: “There is no drama, the interview did not end abruptly and we have the receipts for the interview, everyone!
“Maybe we should get it all out so people can see it for themselves?”
Earlier, Melania Trump canceled a planned campaign appearance due to a persistent ‘Covid cough’.
The First Lady was to accompany President Donald Trump to a rally in Eyrie, Pennsylvania tonight.
It was to be his first public appearance since he was diagnosed with Covid-19, three weeks ago.
And it would have been her first campaign trip with her husband since the Republican National Convention in August.
The first lady’s chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, said the first lady had decided not to take the trip out of a precaution.
National polls show former Vice President Biden has a wide lead over Republican Trump, although the contest is closer in swing states that decide elections like Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Trump has gained some ground over Biden in Pennsylvania, according to a Reuters / Ipsos poll released Monday, which showed the challenger leading between 49% and 45%, slightly narrower than a week earlier.
