The PlayStation 5 is now available in the UK! After a week of watching our American cousins enjoying their new next-gen consoles, Sony’s machine finally launched on our shores this week, and of course it didn’t go as planned. After a notable fight between GAME and Yodel that saw the delivery company trending on Twitter as eager customers wondered if their PS5s would actually show up on launch day, Currys ended up canceling their PS5 release after accidentally selling consoles earlier. Clearly our stores have struggled to cope with demand during closure, although according to Emma’s field reports of the PS5 click-and-pick sale at our local GAME, excited fans were distancing themselves. at least socially.
But have Microsoft and Sony also struggled to get their new consoles in shape in time for launch? PS5 users have reported a number of concerning issues with the console, including crashes, concerns about sleep mode, and the frustrating “queue to download” error that forces people who encounter it to factory reset. Then there’s the problem that some PS5 owners accidentally play the PlayStation 4 version of their games. It’s not easy on Xbox Series X and S either; It turns out that the quick resume feature doesn’t work all the time.
