Liverpool will sign Diogo Jota from the Wolves for a fee that could reach 45 million pounds.
The 23-year-old will join for a starting sum of £ 41 million after signing a five-year contract with the club on Friday.
Jurgen Klopp has been a longtime Jota fan and the Reds made the versatile leader their number one priority after closing a deal for Thiago Alcantara this week.
Club officials moved quickly to secure a big money trade that makes Jota the fourth most expensive player in Liverpool history behind Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Naby Keita.
Liverpool have followed Jota for the past two seasons in the Premier League, with his pace, work rate and ability to play in various positions seen as attractive traits to Klopp in his attempts to secure high-quality competition for players like Sadio Mane. , Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
Jota has scored 16 goals in the last two full seasons in the top flight at Wolves.
But it’s his pace of work on and off the ball that has particularly impressed Klopp, it is understood.
The Liverpool manager places great emphasis on the ability to push from the front and Jota’s willingness to do so with Nuno Espirito Santo at Molineux has caught the attention of Klopp and his backroom staff.
Another big Anfield fan is assistant boss Pep Lijnders, who pushed for Jota to move to the top of a three-man roster that also included Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.
Former Porto manager Lijnders is understood to have received enthusiastic character referrals from his contacts in Portugal and the Reds have built a relationship with the Gestufe de Jota agency in recent years, dating back to Fabinho’s arrival in May. 2018.
Watford was contacted about Sarr this week.
But it is Jota who became a priority after it became clear that the Lobos were open to selling out the former Atlético de Madrid player.
Thiago is a red!

It is understood that the relegated Hornets demanded more than 40 million pounds for Sarr and were not willing to compromise.
In contrast, Liverpool found the Wolves to be much more accommodating at the negotiating table.
And ECHO understands that Midlanders have accepted just 10% of the guaranteed amount over the next 12 months.
At a time when Liverpool are still counting the significant cost of a three-month football suspension earlier this year and the lack of fans attending Anfield, it was vital that flexibility could be found during transfer talks.
Jota joins Thiago and Kostas Tsimikas through the door at Anfield this window to bring Liverpool’s total spending to over £ 80 million.
