Thousands of people have gathered in Buenos Aires to say goodbye to Diego Maradona while his body rests.
The soccer icon sadly passed away on Wednesday after suffering cardiac arrest.
It comes after he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain on October 30.
Maradona has been called one of the greatest footballers of all time after a brilliant career.
Among his many accomplishments was the 1986 World Cup victory with Argentina and the Scudetto landing with Napoli twice.
A true legend of the game, Maradona has countless fans, including many current footballers, coaches and experts.
The streets of Buenos Aires were filled with thousands of people who wanted to send their good wishes.
He is revered in his home country, where he will be forever immortalized for his larger than life personality.
Maradona’s body was transferred to the Bella Vista cemetery on the outskirts of the capital, where he was buried during a private ceremony attended by family and close friends.
The cemetery is the same one where his parents rested, although it is unclear if he has been buried with them.
After his death, the Argentine president announced that the country will enter into a national duel.
“He was someone who touched the sky with his hands but never lifted the ground,” said President Alberto Fernández.
Meanwhile, there has been outrage after a funeral home worker took a photo with Maradona’s body in the coffin.
Diego Molina snapped raising his thumb as he allowed two others to take a photo with the Argentine legend.
Globovision Reporter Jensser Morales reported that the man has been fired from his job.
Diego Picón, manager of the Funeral Home Sepelios Pinier, has insisted that the three men were subcontracted employees.
“The [Molina] He is not an employee here. It is a third party who only helped us to carry the coffin because it weighs a lot ”.
