COVID-19: What can we expect Boris Johnson’s closure announcement to include? | UK News

Boris Johnson is set to reveal the long-awaited England roadmap today.

Speculation has continued for days, but now we have some details on what to expect from the Prime Minister’s announcement.

Follow the live coverage on Sky News on Monday as the prime minister is expected to address the House of Commons at 3.30pm and lead a press conference in Downing Street at 7pm.

This is what we know so far:

Schools

The government has always said that getting students back to the classroom is a priority, and now schools will be the first to reopen.

All schools will allow all students to return on March 8 according to government plans, despite concerns from teacher unions about opening schools all at once.

Socialize

Starting March 8, people will be able to meet another person outdoors in a public space.

They will be allowed to sit for coffee or have a picnic in a park, a slight extension of the current rules that allow people to exercise with someone from another household.

As for group meetings, starting March 29, outdoor gatherings of up to six people, or two households of any size, will be allowed.

To travel

As of yet, there are no details on when people will be allowed to travel abroad again.

The Telegraph has reported that the guidance telling people to stay home and in their local area will be removed on March 29, although this does not yet give the green light to the holidays.

Some reports have claimed that ministers are considering plans to allow people living in the same household to go on vacation together starting in April.

Bars, pubs and restaurants

People in a pub in Liverpool, northern parts of England, are preparing for the stricter Level 3 controls, and Merseyside is expected to shut down its pubs, gyms and casinos in a bid to suppress its infection rate.

Again, there are few details on how the hospitality sector will reopen; this may be something the prime minister clarifies later.

Media reports have suggested that pubs and restaurants could start serving outdoors in April, while indoor dining could be allowed in May.

sports

Outdoor sports facilities such as tennis and basketball courts are expected to reopen on March 29.

From this date the return of organized sport for adults and children, such as grassroots football, is also expected.
