Up to 200 National Guard members on duty in Washington DC for inauguration day tested positive for coronavirus, an official said.

More than 25,000 soldiers were recruited from across the United States to ensure a smooth transition of power.

An official who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity said that although some troops had been infected, it was less than 1% of the total number working on Capitol Hill.

Huge numbers were sent to Washington to Joe Biden ‘s inauguration following the riots and looting of the Capitol buildings on January 6.
