The UK has reported 30,501 new COVID-19 cases, with 316 more deaths within 28 days of a positive test.

Is compared to yesterday’s increases of 34,693 confirmed coronavirus cases and 210 related deaths.

But the true figure is likely to be higher, as Scotland will not release death data between December 25 and 28, while Northern Ireland does not provide figures on cases or deaths during this period.

Another 231 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died at a hospital in England, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals to 48,542.

NHS England said the patients were between 30 and 103 years old. All but five, ages 36 to 85, had known underlying health conditions.

The deaths occurred between December 9 and Boxing Day.

Another 10 deaths were reported with no positive COVID-19 test result.

Authorities in Wales said there had been a further 4,142 coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases there to 139,642.

Public Health Wales reported another 70 deaths, bringing the total in Wales since the start of the pandemic to 3,368.

Authorities said the data was for a 48-hour period from 9 a.m. on Christmas Eve to 9 a.m. on Dec. 26.

Figures released by the UK government often do not correlate with totals from country-specific health agencies, due to differences in the timing and methods by which cases and deaths are recorded.
