Boris Johnson will be told to “support” the nurses who helped save his life after he contracted the coronavirus, and to reconsider the government’s 1% NHS payment offer.
The leader of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) will make a direct appeal to the prime minister, recalling the description he gave of his life-saving care and the nursing staff who cared for him last spring.
Secretary General Dame Donna Kinnair will say at a conference of hundreds of nurses and front-line activists: “I am appealing directly to Boris johnson today to think about 12 months ago.
“When he told the world that he owed his life to the care of the nursing staff.
“When you recognized that the people who cared for you were putting themselves in danger.

“They opened his eyes to the difference that 21st century nursing makes.
“You told the country that it was two nurses who were on duty for 48 hours and made life-saving interventions.
“How would you feel if you saw them now?
“They were by your side, now get away from them.”

“A lot of money for defense and tax breaks that benefit companies like Amazon.
“If the ministers maintain such a low salary award, it will be because they have chosen not to, the decision is in their hands.
“Reports suggest that the government is thinking of trying to defuse this dispute by giving people a small COVID bonus.
“It’s very simple, we don’t want a single sweetener.
“Nursing needs a significant increase this year that we can build on next year as well.
“There are tens of thousands of vacant positions and yet the ministers are shy and manipulative.
“They are pushing even further to reconsider your nursing career after the pandemic.
“Putting an extra £ 3.50 a week on the table does not cover the cost of a day of parking.”
