COVID-19: PM’s ‘winter plan’ at a glance: What to expect when lockdown ends | UK News

Boris Johnson is expected to announce his plan for the winter on Monday, including a tightened three-tier system of local restrictions for England.

The ministers will then establish at what level each area will be located on Thursday.

Parliamentarians are expected to get a vote to approve the new system in the days leading up to its entry into force when the national shutdown ends on December 2.

What will the new system be like?

The country will return to a three-tiered regional restriction system, which was in effect from October 14 to November 5.

While many local measures will be similar to those previously implemented, levels will be strengthened in some areas to safeguard the gains made during the national shutdown.

What is the original three-tier system?

Level 1 (medium): rule of six if they meet indoors or outdoors; pubs and restaurants close at 10 pm

Level 2 (High): Indoor domestic mixing is not allowed; the rule of six applies outdoors; pubs and restaurants close at 10 pm

Level 3 (very high): Domestic mixes are not allowed indoors or in some outdoor spaces; pubs and bars that don’t serve meals are closed

What to expect at Christmas?

Several households, potentially three, could be allowed to create a bubble temporarily between December 22-28.

The plans could cover all four nations of the UK, according to reports.

Restrictions on religious services could also be lifted allowing Christmas Day services to take place.

But while plans have yet to be laid out, ministers have made it clear that the holiday season will be different than normal.

How long will the new system last?

The government is optimistic that restrictions can be phased out in the lead-up to spring, provided the vaccines are approved by regulators, allowing a plan for the launch to begin next month before a broader program in the new Year.

But as no vaccines have been approved, it is not yet clear exactly when the rollout may begin.
