The risk of getting sick from coronavirus is reduced by 95.8% after the second dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, Israel’s Ministry of Health said.

The vaccine was also 98% effective in preventing respiratory problems or fever and 98.9% effective in preventing hospitalizations and deaths, the ministry added.

It comes just days after a vaccine efficacy study in the country concluded that the Pfizer prick is up to 85% effective after the first dose.

The latest findings were based on data collected nationally from around 1.7 million Israelis who had received both injections of the Pfizer vaccine on January 30.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he expects 95% of people 50 and older to have received the vaccine in the next two weeks.

The increase in Israel’s vaccination program has meant that the country may begin to restart its economy. Today, some schools, most stores and gyms will be able to open their doors.

The Ministry of Health has also launched a “green badge” application so that those who have received their vaccination enjoy more freedom.

Linked to health records, the application will demonstrate that the user has received both blows and will allow them to enter places such as gyms, cultural and sporting events and restaurants.

Netanyahu said it was the key to “gradually opening up” the country again.
