Another 1,820 people died within 28 days of testing positive for COVID-19, the highest number of deaths in the UK reported in a single day since the outbreak began.
Exceeds the previous registration number announced yesterday of 1,610.

The government said there were another 38,905 coronavirus cases registered in the last 24 hours, compared to 33,355 the day before. It brings the UK total infections to 3,505,754.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that January 12 this year was the deadliest day in the UK so far in the pandemic, when 1,110 COVID-related deaths occurred.
On January 11, there were 1,085 deaths, while on January 13, some 1,077 people lost their lives to COVID.
The three days have passed on April 8, 2020, the day before when most of the people (1,073) died.
These totals may increase as more data is reported in the coming days.
In total, there are now six days in which more than 1,000 people died from COVID in the UK. All but one (April 8) were this month: consecutive days between January 10 and 14.
New figures from the vaccination program show that a first puncture has been administered to another 343,163 people, bringing the total to 4,609,740 as of January 19.
Before the latest data was released, the UK was faced with questions about its vaccination strategy after a study of Israeli jab data suggested that the efficacy of a single dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is only 33%.
The government has previously said that the effectiveness was “about 90%”, starting 14 days after the first dose.
In response, Sir Patrick Vallance, the government’s top scientific adviser, told Sky News that the UK will need to “keep measuring the numbers” as the vaccine is rolled out across the UK.
While the UK compares favorably with other countries when it comes to vaccination, two doses are needed for the most complete protection.
To date, just over 460,000 people have had a second hit, following an increase of 3,759 in the figures published the previous day.
