Warrington will face the toughest level of coronavirus restrictions starting tomorrow, the government said.
The area will enter Level 3 starting at 12:01 a.m., which means residents are prohibited from socializing with anyone they do not live with indoors, in a private garden, or in most hospitality venues. outdoor.
The only exception is for those with a bubble of support, and people can still gather in groups of six outdoors in places like parks or the field.
All pubs and bars will also be forced to close, unless they serve large meals, and traveling outside of the areas is discouraged except for work, educational or care reasons.
Gambling shops, adult gaming centers, casinos, and soft-play centers should also close.
Infection rates in Warrington are among the highest in England, at 361 people per 100,000 across all age groups, according to the Department of Health.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock thanked residents for their “sacrifices” adding, “I want to extend my thanks to each and every one of them for acknowledging the seriousness of the situation and sticking to the rules.”
The measures will be reviewed in 28 days, added local government secretary Robert Jenrick.
Warrington’s council is receiving £ 1.68 million to enforce the new rules and £ 4.2 million to support affected companies.
Local leaders told Sky News last week that a deal had been agreed that meant that leisure centers, gyms, fitness centers, beauty salons, hair salons and trampoline centers could remain open.
Warrington Council Leader Russ Bowden said the number of coronavirus cases in the city remains “stubbornly high” while the number of hospitalizations is “concerning.”
“The sad and sad reality is that there are more people in the hospital, more people in intensive care beds and more people being taken by the virus, and we must do everything we can to try to control this,” he said.
