As the country prepares to enter a second lockdown starting Thursday, there is a glimmer of hope after the DES vaccine reports are announced. It is believed that the practices and those of the Primary Care Network (PCN 0 will be able to start administering the life-saving drug from the beginning of December. Practices and PCNs will reportedly be asked to administer the vaccine to those 85 and older and front-line workers starting next month.

Over the weekend, AstraZeneca revealed that the country’s health regulator has begun a review of the possible vaccine.
A spokesperson for the pharmaceutical company said: “We confirm the continued review by the MHRA (Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Agency) of our potential COVID-19 vaccine.”
During these reviews, regulators can view real-time clinical data and talk with drug manufacturers about manufacturing processes and trials to speed up the approval process.

It is designed to help accelerate evaluations of promising drugs and vaccines during a public health emergency.
On Friday, it was also reported that the MHRA had begun another expedited review for a vaccine from Pfizer Inc.
