Despite Donald Trump urging people to return to work and reopening the economy, the analysis shows that thousands of people get sick from Covid-19 at work.
Recent figures show an increase in infections in meat packing plants and poultry processing, reports The Associated Press.
There has been a spate of new cases among construction workers in Austin, Texas, where that sector recently returned to work.
The White House has shown itself to be vulnerable, and the staff tested positive.
The developments underscore the great importance of communities across the country as restrictions on business gradually ease.
“People who are getting sick right now are usually people who are working,” Dr. Mark Escott, a regional health official, told the Austin city council. “That risk will increase as more people work.”
There are many new infections outside the workplace in nursing homes, and among retired and unemployed people, particularly in densely populated places such as New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, and urban parts of New Jersey and Massachusetts.
However, of the 15 counties of EE. USA With the highest infection rates per capita between April 28 and May 5, they are all home to meat and poultry packing plants or state prisons, according to data compiled by the AP.
