The UK has recorded 12,872 more coronavirus cases and 65 deaths in the latest daily government update.

It marks a slight drop from Saturday, when 15,166 cases and 81 deaths were recorded.

Separately, the latest figures from the NHS England show that 32 people died in hospital with COVID-19 within a span of 24 hours.

It brings the total number of hospital deaths to 30,471 in England.

Those who died were between 54 and 100 years old. Only one of them did not have an underlying health problem.

The deaths occurred between March 28 and October 10, but most occurred on or after October 8, Public Health England said.

More than 600,000 cases of the virus have been recorded in the UK, figures show.

It comes as five Manchester MPs have warned ministers do not close pubs and restaurants under the new coronavirus restrictions, as millions of people could be banned from mixing in and out.

They said a closure of hospitality venues would have a “devastating impact on jobs, livelihoods and businesses” and lead to illegal gatherings.

It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson gathers cabinet ministers for a phone call tonight to brief them before unveiling a new three-tiered system of restrictions on Monday.

Under the proposed system, different parts of the country would be placed in different categories, and the areas at the highest level are expected to face the toughest measures.
