A female MP apologized for traveling by public transport after testing positive for coronavirus, having originally traveled to London and attending Parliament while awaiting her test result.

Margaret Ferrier of the SNP said in a statement that “there was no excuse for my actions” and “I unreservedly apologize for violating COVID-19 restrictions by traveling this week when I should not have done so.”

“On Saturday afternoon, after experiencing mild symptoms, I requested a COVID-19 test that I took that day,” said the Rutherglen and Hamilton West deputy.

“Feeling much better, I traveled to London by train on Monday to attend Parliament as planned.

“This was wrong, and I am very sorry for my mistake.”

On Monday, Ms Ferrier spoke at the coronavirus debate in the Commons, the night she says she tested positive.

His statement continued: “I traveled home by train on Tuesday morning without asking for advice.

“This was wrong too and I’m sorry. I’ve been isolating myself at home ever since.

“I have used Test and Protect and have notified the House of Commons authorities who have spoken to Public Health England. I have also notified the police of my actions.

“Despite feeling good, I should have isolated myself while waiting for my test result, and I deeply regret my actions.

“I take full responsibility and would ask everyone not to make the same mistakes as me and to do everything possible to help limit the spread of COVID-19.”
