An NHS worker was left unconscious after being subjected to a “totally unjustified violent assault” on a bus that was “provoked by masks”.

CCTV footage shows a man repeatedly hitting the 63-year-old victim on the floor before hitting him five times on the head, knocking him unconscious.

The incident occurred aboard bus 149 just before it stopped at the Seven Sisters station in the north. London Around 9:45 p.m. on August 23, the Metropolitan Police said.

Detectives say the victim, an NHS track and trace worker, boarded the bus through the middle doors before the suspect.

Five minutes later, the suspect followed the victim to the back doors, where police believe he had gone to try to create some distance between them.

The suspect is believed to have been “offended” when the victim walked away from him because he was not wearing his mask correctly, the investigating officer said.

PC Bowman of the Highway and Transportation Police Command said: “Although there is no sound on CCTV and all the victim remembers is waking up in the hospital, we believe this was all caused by face masks.

“We believe that the attacker, who had his face covered under his chin, was offended when the victim, who was completely covered, consciously walked away from him.

“When the attacker follows the victim to the back of the bus, he can be seen pointing and gesturing towards the victim’s face mask before he begins to hit and kick her repeatedly.

“This was a totally unjustified violent assault and we urgently need to speak to this man.”
