A man in Nottingham was fined £ 10,000 for violating lockdown rules by holding a party for more than 30 people, police said.
Its 38 guests were fined £ 200 each for being there while the city is under Tier 3. coronavirus restrictions, prohibiting indoor gatherings with people from other households.
Nottingham police were called to a property on Plumptre Street in the city center around 12:45 am on Saturday.
The occupant of a flat where the party was taking place was fined £ 10,000 for organizing a gathering of more than 30 people, believed to be students.
They were among more than 80 forcibly issued fines over the weekend, totaling more than £ 26,000.
Officers were also called to two reports of student parties on Arthur Street and Forest Road East, both in the Arboretum area in the early hours of Sunday.
In the first, they found 14 people and a DJ, while 18 people were in the second meeting, some of them trying to escape through a window and others found hiding in a garden.
It comes when Cabinet Minister Michael Gove said that four-week national shutdown announced for England by Boris Johnson on Saturday could be extended once it takes effect from Thursday.
Nottinghamshire Police Chief Craig Guildford said: “It’s pretty amazing how some people are completely ignoring the fact that people are dying and the NHS is already so stretched out with suspending cancer treatment because of the continued spread of COVID-19.
“The only way to control this is for everyone in the community to adhere to the legislation and take responsibility.
“Fortunately, most of the people in the community understand the gravity of the situation and are playing their part. But there always seem to be some who think that their social life is more important than the health of other people.”
“Sadly, many of the incidents we witnessed during the night were again student parties. We know both colleges have been trying to help get the message across to students, but for some it doesn’t seem to be getting through.”
Police will continue to impose fines on anyone who has violated the restrictions, he added.
