The new lockdown restrictions should go into effect in London, Sadiq Khan said, following a meeting with officials across the capital.
The mayor of London said he had met with council leaders from all parties and public health experts to “agree on a new London plan” that “includes some new restrictions.”
These include limitations on the hours that bars and restaurants can be open, such as a 10 p.m. curfew, the use of face masks in more settings, and more restrictions at weddings and funerals, he told Sky News.
The mayor of London suggested that all members of staff and customers in the hospitality could wear face masks.
However, he said the new package of measures did not include more limitations for households to mix with each other.
“What we know in London, the way it spreads in our city is different than how it spreads in other parts of the country,” he said, explaining that there is less spread in intergenerational households.
But he said London will “learn lessons” from the northeast and northwest, where additional restrictions have been imposed.
In an earlier statement, the Mayor of London said that “we have no choice but to seek other measures to slow the spread” due to problems with the testing system.
“We will collectively ask the government to implement this plan as soon as possible and I will discuss it with the prime minister tomorrow morning,” he said.
Khan also revealed that Boris Johnson is expected to announce new national rules tomorrow, and said he will be invited to a COBR meeting to discuss plans in the morning.

He previously met with council and government leaders on Friday to consider adopting some of the kinds of measures already imposed elsewhere in the UK.
The Labor politician added that COVID-19 it was growing at an “accelerating rate” and blamed the “uncertainty” caused by the lack of evidence for making the situation worse.
Health Secretary Matt hancock confirmed to Sophy Ridge on Sunday more conversations were ahead that day “to further discuss what might be necessary.”
He added that local closures are “increasingly dependent” and “necessary”, after important interventions Leicester, parts of Greater Manchester and northeast england.
Currently, at least 13 million people in the UK live in areas with some kind of additional restrictions, with several others on the government watch list.
Boris johnson has tightened the rules nationwide as cases rise to levels not seen since early May, with the legal limit of numbers allowed to gather reduced to six and break self-isolation made illegal.
The prime minister warned last Friday: “Now we are seeing the arrival of a second wave.”
The ministers are believed to be looking at other national restrictions less than a total lockdown, including a temporary two- to three-week “circuit breaker” that could lead to pubs and restaurants being ordered to close or face a 10pm curfew.
London has the third lowest rate of cases per 100,000 inhabitants in England, after the East Midlands and East of England.
