How to stay safe if you are clinically extremely vulnerable

A new guide has been published advising this group to stay home at all times, unless it is for exercise or doctor’s appointments.

The new council spells out more precautions that those in this group can take in addition to the stricter national measures being introduced, as cases continue to rise across the country.

The government warns that clinically extremely vulnerable people should work from home and, if that is not possible, should not attend work.

They may be eligible for statutory sick pay, employment and support allowance, universal credit, or coronavirus job retention scheme.

Children living in the same household must continue to attend school, provided they are not themselves clinically vulnerable.

The government will provide more than £ 32 million to higher level councils in England.

It will be used to provide support, such as access to food and signage for local support of friendship services, to those most at risk and will allow them to stay home as much as possible during this short period.

The clinically extremely vulnerable group includes those with lowered immune systems, for example due to organ transplants, or those with specific cancers or severe respiratory conditions, such as cystic fibrosis.
