Lancashire will be placed under stricter lockdown measures with an announcement confirming the move tomorrow, Sky News understands.
The new restrictions are expected to exclude Blackpool and reflect those that will go into effect in the northeast at midnight tonight.
New local restrictions include a 10pm curfew for bars and pubs and a ban on people mingling with other people outside their home.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed the measures for the Northeast in a statement to the House of Commons on Thursday, following government talks with local councils and lawmakers.
They will take effect from Friday in Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Gateshead, Sunderland and County Durham.
The restrictions will include:
- Residents are told not to socialize with people outside of their home or social bubble
- Table service only in bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants
- All bars, pubs, restaurants, cafes and other places of leisure and entertainment close between 10 pm and 5 am
The UK recorded another 3,395 coronavirus cases on Thursday and 21 more deaths.
Hancock told MPs: “Like many other countries in the world, we continue to see a worrying increase in cases.
“And this week, the number of patients in beds with mechanical ventilators has surpassed 100 for the first time since July.
“The battle against the coronavirus is not over.”
