Scotland to face new lockdown restrictions in a few days
Too unpredictable to commit to a regular exam diet
When asked by BBC Scotland if exams could be interrupted again this academic year, Sturgeon says it is simply too unpredictable.
She says: “We want the exam diet to continue as normal or as close to normal as possible next year.
“We all want that, but every day right now is a reminder that we are in a highly volatile and unpredictable situation.”
Dr. Gregor Smith: ‘a more widespread epidemic’
Dr. Gregor Smith explains that the virus is progressing from “localized hotspots of infection to a more widespread epidemic.”
He notes that experts are beginning to see a change in the proportion of those over 60 infected with the disease, representing one in seven new cases.
He says Scotland’s R number is now probably between 0.9 and 1.4.
Jason Leitch: ‘population restrictions are a must’
Professor Jason Leitch is speaking now.
Emphasizing the need for more action, he says: “We cannot live with this disease without population restrictions.”
Pointing to the global picture, he notes that 300,000 people tested positive for the disease on Saturday, including 68,000 in Europe, and 4,000 died.
‘This is a serious moment’
Sturgeon ends by emphasizing individual efforts that everyone can make.
“This is a serious moment again for the country.”
“Think carefully about what you can do as an individual to play your part in this collective action that we must take.”
She encourages members of the public to work from home, download the Protect Scotland app, and follow the instructions.
Financial support for self-isolation
Sturgeon confirms that a package of measures will be introduced to financially support self-insulation of hoses.
Fines are also being considered for non-compliance with self-isolation rules, which were introduced in England last week, although the Prime Minister says there are fears that this could deter people from getting tested.
New measures on Tuesday or Wednesday
New measures will be introduced on Tuesday or Wednesday to restrict the spread of the virus.
Sturgeon said: “I need to be absolutely direct with people across Scotland, that additional restrictions will almost certainly be imposed in Scotland over the next few days.
“Hopefully this will be with the four-nation lineup, but if necessary, it will have to happen without that.”
Cobra meeting will take place
Ms. Strugeon confirms that a Cobra meeting will take place this week.
He expressed his frustration that a date had not been set for the Cobra meeting.
He also said that he would be speaking to the Prime Minister this afternoon.
Sturgeon added: “On that call, I will put on record my opinion to the Prime Minister that we need coordinated action, decisive, urgent and to the extent possible given our individual responsibilities across the UK.
“I will be clear that I am willing to allow a little more time for the four nation discussions to take place before making final decisions for Scotland, but I will be equally clear that the urgency of this situation will mean that we cannot, must not and will not wait. too “.
‘New restrictions must be introduced sooner rather than later’
The Prime Minister insists that further action is necessary to stop the spread.
“In my opinion, more urgent action will be needed now to stop the increase in the number of cases.
“My advisers and I have spent the weekend immersed in discussion and analysis, analyzing a variety of options and carefully considering the impact we judge they would have.”
While the measures are still being considered, the Prime Minister said they are “very close to a decision point.”
He added: “At the heart of this decision is a simple truth, the longer we wait to introduce new measures, the more likely it is that these measures will be in place.
“By acting vigorously now to get the virus back under control, we can minimize the time we all spend under new restrictions.
“If we wait, it will take longer, potentially much longer, to get out the other side.”
‘The number of people dying will increase’
The Prime Minister says we must take the increase in cases “very seriously”.
She warns that as we increase the numbers of hospitalized, “we will see that the number of people who die also increases.”
He points out that the disease will increasingly affect the elderly.
Prime Minister: ‘Covid is spreading again in Scotland’
The Prime Minister issues the stern warning that “Covid is spreading again in Scotland.”
Offering a silver lining, he says that we are in a much better position due to everyone’s efforts during the summer months, stating: “Collectively we saved many lives.”
He also backs the warning from UK Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty, who said new cases could increase by 50,000 daily in October.
However, the figures reported in recent weeks are not as bad as in the spring, at the beginning of the pandemic.
The prime minister is now speaking
She says 255 new cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total number of cases to 24,627.
103 of the new cases were in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, 47 cases in NHS Lanarkshire and 30 cases in NHS Lothian. New cases registered by all the health boards of the continent.
The number of people hospitalized increased from 10 to 73, with eight in intensive care.
There were zero deaths, although Sturgeon notes that registration offices are closed Monday. The total number of deaths remains at 2,505.
The prime minister will hold a press conference
Nicola Sturgeon will hold a press conference at 12.15pm. M. With Acting Medical Director Dr. Gregor Smith and National Clinical Director Jason Leitch.
As always, we will provide updates at all times.
Prof Whitty: ‘Significant transmission rates’ of coronavirus in parts of the UK
Medical director Professor Chris Whitty told a news conference that there are now “significant transmission rates” of the coronavirus in parts of the UK.
Referring to a presentation slide looking at the growth of Covid-19 outbreaks, he said: “What we have seen is a progression where, after notable efforts that lowered rates across the country, we first saw very small, perhaps associated with a workplace or other environment, then we have seen more localized outbreaks that have grown larger over time, particularly in cities.
“And now what we are seeing is a rate of increase in the vast majority of the country.
“It goes at different rates, but now it is increasing.
“And what we’ve found is that as we go forward in time, whatever place that was falling is now moving to start going up and then the rate of increase continues in an upward direction.
“So this is not someone else’s problem, this is our whole problem.”
