Scotland’s daily count of people testing positive for coronavirus has risen for the fourth day in a row.
A total of 244 tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, according to the Scottish government.
It is the second day in a row that the number exceeds 200 and the highest number of confirmed cases since May 6.
However, far fewer tests were conducted at that stage of the pandemic, meaning that many people with the virus did not appear in the statistics.
On Saturday, 221 cases were reported, the highest daily figure since May 8.
The latest daily figures issued by the Scottish government reveal that:
- 3.7% of the people newly examined had the virus
- There were no deaths from people who tested positive, but registry offices are generally closed on weekends.
- Seven people were in intensive care last night with Covid-19, one less than on Saturday
- A total of 259 were hospitalized with the virus, two fewer in the last 24 hours.
- 18,303 tests were performed (compared to 4,683 on May 6)
Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the statistics “underscore the need for all of us to be careful and abide by public health standards.”
The statistics have been released before the introduction of new rules that prohibit groups of more than six people from meeting inside or outside of Scotland.
Children under the age of 12 are not counted in the “rule of six” that goes into effect Monday.
But more than 1.75 million people in Scotland are also constrained by additional restrictions following an increase in cases in the Greater Glasgow area.
People in the city of Glasgow, Lanarkshire, East and West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire cannot find other households in their own homes.
The latest figures show there were 104 new cases in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area in the last 24 hours.
There were also 62 in Lanarkshire, 25 in Lothian, 12 in Borders, and 11 in Ayrshire and Arran.
The remaining positive cases were recorded in all the remaining areas of the continent’s health board.
Meanwhile, more than 868,000 have downloaded the Protect Scotland contact tracker app.
