Another 847 people have died with coronavirus in UK hospitals, bringing the national total to more than 14,000.

The Health Department announced the latest increase, with 14,576 people with COVID-19 – the disease caused by coronavirus – now confirmed to have died in hospital in the four nations of origin.

The number of tests for the disease has also increased from 21,328 to 438,991, although this includes some people who are being tested more than once.

There have now been 108,692 positive tests in the UK.

Health authorities in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland also record their own daily figures, which may not match the government total, as they collect their numbers at different times during the day.

NHS England announced another 738 deaths in hospitals in England, bringing the country’s total to 13,134.

Of the new deaths, 138 occurred on April 16, 320 on April 15, and 109 on April 14.

About 154 of them occurred between April 1 and April 13, and 16 were last month, since March 21.

Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon also announced another 58 deaths in Scotland, Wales has recorded another 11 deaths, and there were 18 more confirmed in Northern Ireland for the second consecutive day.

According to the health authorities of each country of origin, the number of deaths in hospitals is now:

  • England – 13,134
  • Scotland – 837
  • Wales – 506
  • Northern Ireland – 176

Figures from the Department of Health and from each country of origin do not include deaths in nursing homes, hospices and other out-of-hospital settings, masking the true number of deaths from coronavirus in the UK.

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, released Thursday, suggested there was about 75% more coronavirus-related fatalities in England and Wales last month than reported by the government.

On Wednesday, Scottish National Registries revealed that as of April 12, nearly 25% of the 962 recorded deaths where COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate in Scotland had occurred in nursing homes.

Announcing an extension to the UK closure On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab acknowledged that there were still “problems with the spread of the virus in some hospitals and residences.”

Medical Director Professor Chris Whitty warned that the UK will suffer thousands more deaths from COVID-19 before the locking is made easier, despite the fact that the number of new cases suggests that the peak of the epidemic is in sight.

Deaths will be the last statistic that will start to decline due to the time it takes for someone to get sick, be admitted to the hospital, and then sadly succumb to the disease.
