Health Secretary Matt Hancock has been photographed in his ministerial car without a mask.

Chauffeured car passengers are exempt from the £ 200 fine which can be imposed on the public if they do not cover their faces in taxis or private hire cars.

However, Downing Street said it has recommended that all ministers cover their faces.

Mr. Hancock was arriving at the Department of Health and Welfare when he was seen without a mask.

He reportedly wore a face cover for part of the trip, but took it off when approaching the apartment.

Boris Johnson’s spokesman said he hadn’t seen the picture, but that “on the whole point, we got going at that point that we were making face covers available on all ministerial cars for ministers to use.”

Last month, the prime minister’s spokesman said Johnson and the ministers would cover their faces according to the guidance.

The fine for failing to cover your face in shops, supermarkets, public transport, taxis and indoor hospitality was recently doubled to £ 200 for a first offense.

The rules also apply to customers inside restaurants and pubs when they are not seated at a table.
