1. Concerns about PM’s ‘moonshot’ virus testing plans
Scientists and healthcare professionals have raised questions about the prime minister’s suggestion that millions of Covid-19 tests, including some that give results in minutes, could be processed daily “in the near future.” Doctors say the necessary technology “doesn’t exist yet” and points to problems with the laboratory’s capacity.

2. Global delivery of vaccines ‘will need 8,000 jumbo jets’
Shipping a coronavirus vaccine around the world will be the “biggest transportation challenge ever,” according to the airline industry. The equivalent of 8,000 Boeing 747s will be needed, says the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

3. Indoor venues in Scotland await closure review
Covered venues in Scotland, including concert halls, theaters and soft play centers, will find out later if they can reopen from Monday. However, Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she will take a “very cautious approach” and does not rule out further restrictions. The average daily number of cases has tripled in three weeks.
4. ‘I felt a call to join the nursing surge’
The admiration for NHS staff during the Covid-19 pandemic is believed to be responsible for an increase in people requesting qualifications in healthcare. The University and College Admissions Service says 47,320 people had applied for nursing degrees in the UK at the end of June, a 16% increase over last year.

5. Couple kept apart for five months marries in Scotland
A couple trapped on different continents by the coronavirus finally got married after five months of separation. The pandemic not only caused the cancellation of Piriyah and Sandeep Krishnan’s wedding, but also forced him to spend the confinement in Missouri, in the United States, while she was in London.
