Hundreds of students have been filmed climbing onto ping pong tables and screaming to music at a late night party in the hallways of the university in Coventry, violating coronavirus lockdown rules.
At least 200 young people are believed to have crowded into a common room at Arundel House, near the main campus of Coventry University, for a rave in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The footage comes despite an increase in coronavirus cases in campus across the UK, with thousands of students locked up.
Some revelers could be heard yelling, while a group of male students stood on top of a ping pong table while singing loud music.
A spokesperson for Coventry University, where there have been five confirmed cases of COVID-19 – said they were “deeply concerned” by the scenes in the video.
The university “strongly condemns flagrant violations” of the rule of six and other guidelines, according to the statement.
“We have introduced a code of conduct for students and shared it widely with them before the weekend,” he added.
“This code of conduct makes it clear that failure to comply with university and government health, safety and welfare requirements will constitute a violation of the university’s disciplinary regulations and may be treated as a matter of misconduct.
“If anyone involved in the video is found to be a Coventry University student and violates the code of conduct, we will take appropriate action.”
An investigation is also underway to determine if the party had been planned.
