Finally gone! Coronation Street villain Geoff Metcalfe’s reign of terror finally ended on Wednesday when he fell and died after a rooftop confrontation with Yasmeen and Alya.
The drama began with a Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) still reeling from Yasmeen’s (Shelley King) not guilty verdict in court after she attacked him in self-defense.
After trying to convince her to give up her share of the house and then give him the keys to collect his things from number 6, he headed to Speed Daal to steal some cash while planning a new life in Cyprus with his new girlfriend Christine. . .
But he was caught in the act by Alya (Sair Khan) who delighted in telling him that she had not only reported him to the police for harassing her grandmother, but also informed Christine of his vile deeds.
Furious at Alya, he knocked her out with the petty cash before heading to the house where Yasmeen is.
Torment: Yasmeen was left in fear for her life in explosive scenes that marked the iconic soap opera’s 60th birthday.
Upon entering, he terrified her as he closed the doors and doused the place with gasoline before setting it on fire.
With nowhere to turn, Yasmeen ran upstairs and climbed onto the roof, but her calls for help were drowned out by protesters below.
Sinister Geoff then followed his wife to the roof as he continued to taunt her, but was soon interrupted by Alya, who suddenly emerged to try and save her grandmother.
As Geoff got closer to her, Yasmeen finally found the courage to confront him and respond with some truths of her own.
She called it a ‘pathetic excuse for a man’ and told her granddaughter that she still sucks her thumb when she thinks no one is looking.
How the Mighty Fall: Viewers rejoiced when Geoff lay motionless in the gardens surrounded by Yasmeen’s chickens, ending the dramatic story of long-running coercive control.
Turning to her husband, she said: ‘I am no longer afraid of you, do you hear me? If the plan is to pressure me, look me in the eye and I know that I am no longer afraid of you.
As he lunged furiously at her, Geoff lost his balance and slid down the roof, pleading with his wife for help.
Despite Alya’s protests to leave him, Yasmeen proceeded to use her scarf to try to help Geoff, but then she slipped and fell from the ceiling to the ground.
When the episode came to a close, the villain character lay motionless as Yasmeen’s beloved chickens pecked around him.
