Frank Lampard says that trying to maximize Christian Pulisic’s impact on Chelsea remains a “work in progress.”
Pulisic will be in good shape for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Everton, having shaken off his latest hamstring jab earlier this week.
The United States forward has avoided injury in clear relief for both player and manager at Stamford Bridge.
But Pulisic has suffered from a number of hamstring problems and Lampard admitted that he, the player and the club are still working hard to find the right balance between work and rest to help the 22-year-old prosper in West London. .
“Christian Pulisic had a little bit of awareness of the back of Leeds game in one of his hamstrings, but he’s training normally,” said the Chelsea manager.
“Christian is a work in progress. I don’t want to call this a midweek injury. If the game had been a different kind of game, maybe I would have used it.”
“We know his skills, that’s very clear, he showed them when he came in against Leeds last week.
“I just have to find the right way to get the best out of him on a regular and consistent basis.”
Meanwhile, Lampard will warn his Chelsea players to fulfill their “responsibilities as role models” and avoid any social distancing breakthrough this Christmas.
While Lampard says noisy Christmas parties are a thing of the past in the Premier League, he admitted that he would speak to his players about their behavior.
Blues duo Tammy Abraham and Ben Chilwell broke coronavirus restrictions at the former’s birthday party in October, both missing the international action and apologizing.
“I will have those conversations, I will reiterate your responsibilities,” Lampard said.
“The Christmas party of yesteryear has gone pretty mellow now anyway.
“Players are so well followed in terms of social media, etc., that the parties that I might have been involved in in the past don’t happen today.
“Seriously speaking, we have new signings this year and, in a way, a new squad.
“And we have missed the opportunity to go out more often and have dinner together.
“It’s tough in terms of Covid, but it’s the same for everyone, and players have responsibilities as role models for outsiders and to do the right things for their careers.”
“Especially when they play so often during Christmas, they have to potentially live differently from the rest of the crowd and focus, and that’s a constant reminder.”
