Chris Sutton delivers ’embarrassing’ Celtic verdict but asks Neil Lennon for respect after protests

Former Celtic forward Chris Sutton admits that it is impossible for Neil Lennon to remain as the club’s coach after missing out on the Betfred Cup.

But he has demanded that a section of fans show great respect to the Hoops after hundreds of people fell on Parkhead following a 2-0 loss to Ross County.

Lennon’s position looks increasingly shaky after a two-game win streak in 10 games, with an 11-point gap between his team and rival Rangers in the Premiership.

The angry protests sparked a club statement condemning the missile launches at the players, with some team members ‘shaken’ by vitriol.

And Sutton said on BBC 606: “What is there to say?

“It has been a terrible season, a terrible season.

“They have failed most of the big games, today was probably the most embarrassing loss, at home to Ross County, who are respectfully not in great shape themselves.

“It’s the manager who has to carry the can, I think we all have to accept that, you can’t blame the back room staff.

“Neil Lennon can’t stay after that, but I think he deserves a lot more respect than the fans gathered off the court.

“Sing to your head? I mean come on. Come on. That’s not enough.”
