She is the awesome Little Mix star that all fans want to be, but at one point ruthless trolls tormented Jesy Nelson to such an extent that he tried to kill himself.
After being ruthlessly trolled and embarrassed since he found fame as a teenager on The X Factor in 2011, the 28-year-old singer stopped eating and fell into a dark depression.
Too distraught and fragile to work, Jesy recounted in the heartbreaking BBC3 documentary Odd One Out how she attempted suicide because life had become too unbearable.
She took an overdose of pills, but luckily she was found by her boyfriend who called an ambulance.
“I just remember thinking that this was never going to happen. I will constantly wake up and feel sad for the rest of my life. So what’s the point of being here? I couldn’t physically tolerate the pain anymore, “he said.
“I remember going to the kitchen and taking as many tablets as I could. Then I lay in bed for centuries and kept thinking: ‘Let it happen. Hurry up.'”
Her bandmates were absolutely heartbroken when they found out, and Jesy’s newest boyfriend Chris Hughes couldn’t even talk about his suffering without falling apart.
Jesy has admitted that her mental health will never fully recover as a result of the cruel online bullying, but Chris, the Love Island star, was determined to help her see how extraordinary she is.
Describing how she would never let him see her without makeup, she said that Jesy would sneak out of bed at dawn to face him before going back to bed.
Chris, 27, also recounted how she refused to wash the hair around him because she didn’t want him to see her natural curls.
Instead, Chris kept a photo of the star with her natural hair and no makeup in the fridge, admitting that he often sneaked out to admire her.
“I realized that I had a lot of insecurities,” he told the documentary.
“You are very self-critical but I don’t know why, look at you,” he continued, tenderly hugging Jesy as they walked.
“You have this aura, like a glow. If you look into her eyes, they are like golf balls, they are beautiful. They are charming, they are incredible.”
“You have a model’s jaw. She has fantastic lips, her eyebrows are shiny … her forehead … all over her. And you have good ears.”
For Chris, her hope was that one day something would “click” for Jesy and she “would see that she is beautiful and that she is incredible and she doesn’t see that when she takes off her makeup, but that’s what I’m telling her.” each night.”
The forceful show won the Best Factual Show at 2020 NTA, and Jesy’s bravery in sharing her struggles left Chris with a “respect” that he “never had for another girlfriend.”
“It was really difficult to see. Some stages broke my heart. It was really difficult to see,” he told Happiful.
“Just looking at all the things he’s been through and overcome, he deserves all the happiness now.”
It comes amid reports that the couple have now called the time in their 16-month relationship with Jesy who says she ended things on the phone amid the ongoing coronavirus blockade.
“Jesy and Chris broke up a couple of weeks ago. It was all very friendly and they are still very good friends,” a source told The Sun.
“Jesy called Chris and led the conversation about their relationship and they both agreed that it seemed like he had run his course, they were both absolutely fine.”
