Will Gilmour stay in Chelsea?
Frank Lampard hinted after tonight’s draw with Krasnodar that the impressive Billy Gilmour would stay with Chelsea in January instead of being loaned …
“I’m not sure. The way he trains and plays I can see it with us,” he said. “I have to make sure that the path is the right one.
“They were all pretty good. There were no standout performances, but I asked the guys to be professionals and they were.
“I don’t think we can analyze the group stage too much, we have won the group and it is a good progression.”
Lampard provides update on Ziyech’s injury
Chelsea duo Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been ruled out for two weeks with hamstring injuries. writes James Robson at Stamford Bridge.
But Frank Lampard is confident that the couple will return for the busy Christmas and New Years schedule.
Ziyech was forced to retire during Saturday’s 3-1 win against Leeds, while Hudson-Odoi stopped in training ahead of the Champions League tie with Krasnodar.
Both wingers have now been evaluated by Chelsea’s medical team, with Lampard optimistic about his conditions.
He said: “Hopefully both players will be out for about two weeks. They had scans yesterday and their injuries show that they will be close to two weeks.
“I think that is positive. Particularly with Hakim it is positive.
“With Callum we didn’t know what to expect. It was an injury he had in training a couple of days ago ”.
It means Lampard will have to alter his line-up for Saturday’s game against Everton, with either Timo Werner or Kai Havertz potentially playing on the attacking right.
Havertz was deployed there in the 1-1 draw with Krasnodar, ensuring that Chelsea remained undefeated in the Champions League group stage.
Lampard added: “I was happy. It was a difficult game to navigate. Nothing in him as such other than our own attitude and how we perform and how we approach, and I thought our attitude was excellent.
“No injuries, minutes for the players, Billy Gilmour back on the wing. Tino Anjurin makes his debut at this level, so I’m very happy ”.
UEFA has also confirmed that the conclusion of PSG-Istanbul Basaksehir tomorrow night will feature a “new team of referees”.
A tweet from PSG confirms the following: “Tonight’s match between @PSG_English and @ ibfk2014 was interrupted after 13 minutes of play following racist comments from the fourth official to a member of the Basaksehir club staff.
“The game will be repeated on Wednesday at 6:55 pm (CET).
“All forms of racism go against the values of Paris Saint-Germain, the club president, the staff and the players.”
Solskjaer, understandably, was in no mood to discuss Paul Pogba’s future after the loss in Leipzig tonight.
“You have to ask Paul if he’s happy or not, I won’t speak for him,” he said.
“He is working hard in training and needs to focus on his performances. Now is not the time to discuss transfers.”
Solskjaer: We started too late
“We started too late,” Solskjaer lamented to BT Sport. “Great spirit and I’m back again. It’s different from the Premier League, you can’t give a team a three goal lead and expect it to come back. We were unlucky towards the end and you almost thought I was in at the last minute.
“Of course you can’t say we were good enough, we weren’t. In a difficult group, of course, the big loss for us was to go to Istanbul, that’s where we lost the points we should have had.”
“Today we were close, but we knew we had to defend crosses and balls inside the area and we just couldn’t clear them.
“As a footballer, you can’t feel sorry for yourself. You feel sorry for a few minutes tonight and then we focus on a massive game on Saturday.”
Maguire: I don’t want to look at excuses
“This club deserves to be in the competition,” continued the United boss. “We have to overcome the group. We knew that no matter which group it was from, it was going to be difficult, but we have to do more.”
“We look at the group and feel that we should pass, those are the standards of the club. I am the captain, I am disappointed, I am devastated for everyone because we worked so hard to get to this competition.
“I don’t want to look for excuses. There are 11 bodies that have to go out and be aggressive, win the first balls, win the second balls and defend centers.
“It’s the basics of football. No matter what form you are in, if you can’t defend crosses, you will lose matches.”
UEFA conducts ‘comprehensive investigation’ into PSG-Basaksehir incident
Maguire: We gave ourselves too much to do
“We started the game too slow,” the United captain told BT Sport. “The first 20 minutes weren’t good enough, we didn’t do it and they scored their two chances. They put two balls into the area and we failed in the middle and that’s why they hit us.
“In the second half we gave everything, and they scored with their only attack. Another center, so we have to look at ourselves. We gave ourselves too much. We came from behind, so we had great faith. We could do it, you see what close we were at the end.
“The amount of opportunities we’ve had, the shots we’ve had, I don’t know the statistics. In the end, we started the game too slow, giving away goals and falling behind. “
