Celtic chief Neil Lennon on the brink of the abyss

TIME COULD END

NEIL LENNON is about to leave Celtic.

Hoops’ boss is ready for crucial conversations about his future in the next 48 hours.

Parkhead supreme to Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell gave the Northern Irishman a vote of confidence on Friday after an embarrassing exit from the Europa League.

But after yesterday’s Betfred Cup humiliated Ross County, the club’s worst result this season, angry fans descended on the stadium demanding that Lennon be fired.

Celtic have won just two of their last ten games, sending 23 goals during that span, and are trailing the Rangers by 11 points in the title race.

Lennon refused to quit last night because he was adamant that he could turn things around.

When asked if he could understand if the board took action to remove him, Lennon said: “No, I think it’s too early for that.

“We have lost a trophy, which is gone. Our priority is the league, it always is, every time we enter a season.

“We are out of Europe, so it was not great, but there is a lot of time to turn it around. But it’s okay to say it, we have to show it with action now.

“I think I should spend more time on it, but if not, so be it.”

Last night, the shocked players had to be escorted to their cars when the protest got ugly.

It is understood that two policemen were injured during the embarrassing scenes and Celtic issued a statement condemning their followers.

But with a historic ten in a row now slipping away, the Hoops bosses may now be left with no choice but to end Lennon’s reign after 22 months in charge.

Former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is the bookmaker favorite to replace Lennon.

Marco Silva, who has been out of work since his dismissal from Everton in December 2019, has also been linked.
