Duncan Ferguson has all the “qualities” to become Everton’s permanent manager in the future, says Carlo Ancelotti.

Ferguson was in provisional charge of the Blues at this point last season and guided the team to a win and two draws in the league following the firing of Marco Silva.

Big Dunc’s first game of that spell was a thrilling 3-1 win over tomorrow night’s opponent Chelsea, where he will be on the touchline as one of Ancelotti’s assistants.

The Everton manager has been impressed with Ferguson ever since he came to the club and cast him into his new backroom setup at Goodison.

And in a brilliant reference to his men’s coaching and management skills, Ancelotti believes the 48-year-old is good enough to one day take full control of the team.

“Yes, of course. Duncan has all the qualities to become a good coach,” he said.

“All the qualities. From a technical point of view, he is really good. I see him every day in training, talking to the players, he has a good idea of football, the players respect him a lot and this is really important that The players respect you. And he has a lot of charisma. So in the future, for sure, he will be a very good coach. “

Ferguson is often seen in deep discussion with Ancelotti on the touchline and the Blues boss says his opinion is key before, during and after games.

“We are used to talking together and with each other,” he said.

Ferguson employed a 4-4-2 formation during his interim spell, a system in which Ancelotti kept faith during the early stages of his reign last season.

The Blues have primarily used a 4-3-3 setup this period, but had switched to 3-4-3 due to injuries in recent weeks.

A forced return to a full back of four in the first half at Burnley last weekend helped improve Everton, but Ancelotti, who will be without James Rodriguez due to a calf problem, will not be told if he would reintroduce the 4-4-2. for Chelsea’s visit.
