Captain Tom Moore received a prestigious Blue Peter Gold Badge for raising nearly £ 33 million for the NHS.
The badge is the show’s biggest accolade and famous recipients include the Queen, Sir David Attenborough, and Mary Berry.
The war veteran completed 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden before turning 100 last week, receiving donations from more than 1.5 million followers.
Presenter Lindsey Russell described it as “a beacon of light.”
Captain Tom’s birthday on Thursday was marked with an RAF takeoff and a message from the Queen.
He was also made an honorary colonel by the 1st Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment, in which he had served during World War II.
Blue Peter presents a handful of gold badges each year to outstanding people who consider themselves role models, inspiring the children of the nation.

Captain Tom’s grandchildren, Benji and Georgia, helped Russell surprise him with the badge and comply with social distancing measures.
She said to him, “At Blue Peter we believe what you have accomplished and what you have done in the past few weeks, the money and the attention you have raised is brilliant.”
“As Benji rightly said, during this time of darkness you are a beacon of light.
“At Blue Peter, our highest accolade is the Blue Peter Gold Badge and it is something that the Queen, among a few others, has earned, so on behalf of Blue Peter and our wonderful audience, we would like to award her our highest accolade . “
Captain Tom replied: “That is absolutely incredible, thank you very much. I am very proud to receive you because I have always been a great follower of Blue Peter. I remember the elephant, which has been quite a few years!”
The Blue Peter special episode will air on May 7 on CBBC at 5:30 PM GMT and will be on BBC iPlayer.
