Campers and hikers are told to leave Gloucestershire as closure continues

The police in Gloucestershire have been dividing barbecues, sending hikers to their homes, and making sure the public complies with social distancing guidelines.

After a Friday that saw more than 50 incidents of antisocial behavior in Gloucester alone, patrols of major routes in and out of the county were seen on Saturday.

The Gloucestershire Specials went into effect as part of Operation Indemnis, which sees them carrying out routine checks on drivers on the road.

And along the way, more than a few people were found who broke the blocking guidelines.

Among those detained was the driver of a motorhome that was stopped on the A417 in Birdlip. They admitted they were on vacation in the county and were sent home.

Elsewhere, a patrol at Stinchcombe Golf Course found registered cars at homes in Swindon and Bristol. The officers gave little importance to the occupants who had given the excuse to “go for a walk” and also sent them home.

Previously, a Liverpool driver was sent home after they were stopped on the M5 at Exit 12 and told officers that they were going to deliver a puppy to Newport.
