Newcastle United signing £ 20 million is a ‘steal’ and their goals can take the Magpies to the next level.
That’s the opinion of former Liverpool and Scotland midfielder Charlie Adam, who believes he can become a hero on Tyneside.
Wilson landed at Tyneside on Sunday night and is undergoing a medical exam before his transfer from AFC Bournemouth.
The England international forward had also been the subject of a higher offer, £ 21m, from Aston Villa, but the city’s second team withdrew once the 28-year-old declared his enthusiasm for playing for the Magpies. .
And Adam believes that Wilson is making the right decision by moving to the Northeast instead of the West Midlands.
“I think you have to see what is best for your football career,” he told BBC Radio 5Live. “Where are you going to achieve the best things?
“I think Newcastle is a wonderful football club and a great football club. You probably think your best chance to stay in the Premier League is at Newcastle.
“Aston Villa are known for spending money, which I think they will do again in this window, but if they had the option to go up and score goals in front of the Geordie faithful they will be a hero up there.
“He can see that he has a better payoff for his career. It’s a great move for Newcastle and at £ 20 million I think it’s a steal.”
“It’s a great decision for him, but I think he’s making the right decision. Newcastle is a great move for him.”
The Magpies are also close to signing Norwich City left back Jamal Lewis as well as Wilson’s former Cherries teammate Ryan Fraser.
Fraser is also set for a medical exam in Tyneside and Newcastle fans are excited to see if the pair can rekindle their 2018/19 form.
The pair were one of the most productive striker associations in the Premier League with Wilson scoring 14 goals and recording 10 assists, while Fraser contributed seven goals and 14 assists.
And Adam believes Wilson will only thrive on the service of the likes of Fraser and current Magpies star Allan Saint-Maximin.
“Ryan Fraser would be a very good signing for them,” added Adam.
“If he plays on one side and Saint-Maximin plays on the other, Callum Wilson will have chances.
“His scoring record is good. He is one in three in the Premier League.
“If he can score 20 goals a season for Newcastle, that can take them to the next level, in the top 10 or in the top eight on a consistent basis.
“I think Steve Bruce has done a lot of business there.
“The concern for Newcastle is that Dwight Gayle is injured again, Andy Carroll needs to stay fit, Callum Wilson has had knee injuries in the past so he is a risk.”

Steve Bruce now has the final say on transfers in Newcastle and is eager to build a British core that is already hardened by the rigors of the Premier League.
The trio of imminent transfers will follow the arrival of Jeff Hendrick from Burnley and Adam believes that will only benefit the Magpies in the future.
“If you look at Newcastle now, they are trying to get that British core of players who understand what it means to play for Newcastle and the big crowd and handle the pressure.
“Also Matt Ritchie is still there with whom he has played in Bournemouth.”
