BRUNO FERNANDES revealed why he missed a hat-trick opportunity by delivering a penalty to Marcus Rashford last night.
Portugal’s playmaker scored Man Utd’s first two goals in 20 minutes against Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford.
And the opportunity to complete a hat-trick in the first half of the Champions League presented itself when Rashford fell.
But the 26-year-old Fernandes handed the ball to the forward so that he would fit in from the point.
He explained to BT Sport: “Of course every player wants to score a hat-trick, but after the last Premier League game I told Rashford that he could take the next one.
“I remembered that. And also because he is one of the top scorers in the Champions League, I think it will be important for him to continue there and get that confidence.”

“It doesn’t matter who takes the penalties, the most important thing is to score and the team scores. When the team scores, I score too.”
Daniel James added another goal in injury time when Man Utd won 4-1 to move within a point of reaching the knockout stages.
Chief Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Marcus is also a very good penalty taker. Bruno is very confident, but if he feels like he wants to give it to Marcus, then so be it.
“Anthony (Martial) had one against Leipzig so they can share it.
“We created great chances and some very good goals. I am very happy.
“We need one more point to pass, but we want to be the first of the group.”
