The tablets were taken to one of the most prestigious schools in Merseyside and taken by a child, prompting a police investigation.

Officers were called to the Merchant Taylors school in Crosby earlier this week due to concerns about substances at the facility.

A child is believed to have consumed one of the tablets, but it is understood that he has not become seriously ill.

Parents today spoke of their shock after discovering the news of the police investigation, fearing that the tablets brought to school were a recreational drug.

The tablets are being analyzed for their content.

Police are investigating how the tablets arrived at the Liverpool Road school, suspected of having been brought by a teenager, who is a student.

It is understood that you are under 16 years of age.

“Research continues to establish what tablets are.”

The school found the boy’s tablets and confiscated them, before reporting the matter to the police.

A father, whose son attends Merchant Taylors’, said: “We are concerned that there are drugs that, apparently, could have been brought to the school.

“Some of the students saw the police coming into the school the other day and wondered what was going on.

“It’s the talk of the school right now.”

David Wickes, Principal of Merchant Taylors ‘Boys’ School, said: “We can confirm that the tablets were confiscated from a student at the school earlier this week.

“Due to the unspecified nature of the items and the student’s age, we duly reported the matter to Merseyside Police, who continue to investigate.”
