Boris Johnson is isolating himself after a meeting with an MP who later tested positive for COVID-19.
The prime minister’s spokesman said that NHS Test and Trace had notified him that he had to isolate himself because he was a contact of someone who tested positive.
Johnson “will follow the rules and isolate himself” in Downing Street, where he will continue to work.
“The PM is fine and does not show any symptoms of COVID-19,” added the spokesperson.
Johnson had a meeting that lasted about 35 minutes with some deputies at No. 10 on Thursday morning, including Lee Anderson.
Mr. Anderson then developed symptoms of COVID-19 and tested positive.
The MP from Ashfield and Eastwood, north of Nottingham, posted a photo of himself on Facebook other than Johnson after Thursday’s meeting. Neither of them wore face masks.
He said: “Breakfast with the PM. This morning I met with the PM at number 10.
“I was there with my wish list for Ashfield and Eastwood. Investing is coming, you have my word.”
The prime minister spent three nights in intensive care at St Thomas’ Hospital in central London in April after testing positive for COVID-19 on March 27.
He hopes to continue speaking with the country during his period of self-isolation, which should end on November 26.
Johnson’s self-isolation comes at the end of a confusing week in which his communications director, Lee Cain, resigned, followed by his top aide, Dominic Cummings, on Friday.
Next week was destined to be a fresh start, as the final days of Brexit negotiations with the EU are due to begin.
Now you will have to participate in what could be the most important days of the negotiations through a video call.
