During a call with industry leaders, the prime minister told them that time was running out for the EU to sign a Brexit deal. Johnson also highlighted how business leaders had been busy dealing with the coronavirus, but must now move on to prepare for the end of the transition period. During the call, Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove joined Johnson, who insisted that Brexit would bring long-term benefits despite short-term consequences.

According to HuffPost UK, industry leaders also wanted Gove and the Prime Minister to show their understanding of the needs of businesses going forward.
During the call, Gove said that he would seek transition coupons to help businesses.
These coupons would give cash payments to businesses to help cushion the blow of the change in trade terms starting January 1.

Lord David Frost and Barnier held more informal talks today to reach an agreement.
Despite their efforts today, the two sides failed to move further with an agreement.
A spokesperson for No. 10 said today: “Lord Frost and Michel Barnier had a constructive discussion.
“The situation remained as yesterday and they will continue in contact.”
Barnier concluded after today’s talks that the two sides should continue to intensify negotiations.
He added: “My message: we should make the most of the little time left.
