A man has been charged with murder and seven counts of attempted murder, following a series of stabbings in Birmingham city center.

Zephaniah McLeod, 27, of Nately Grove, Selly Oak, is due to appear in court Wednesday, West Midlands police said.

23-year-old Jacob Billington was killed and seven others were injured in four places over a 90-minute period Sunday.

Billington, from Crosby, Merseyside, was stabbed on Irving Street

while enjoying a night out with friends.

A post-mortem examination concluded that he died of a stab wound to the neck.

A 23-year-old man, who was seriously injured on Irving Street, remains in the hospital in critical condition. A 22-year-old woman, attacked on Hurst Street, remains critical but stable in hospital.

Another man, 30, remains in serious condition at the hospital, while four others have been discharged.

Detective Ch Insp Jim Munro said: “Since these tragic events unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning, we have had a team of officers working tirelessly on the investigation.

“Our primary goal is to ensure justice for the victims, their families and friends. Our condolences remain with all those who have been affected by these horrific crimes.”
